Marokkaanse wortels, Nederlandse grond : exploratie, bindingen en identiteitsstrategieëen van jongeren van Marokkaanse afkomst

(2008) Ketner, Susan Liesbeth

This research is based on interviews with 80 adolescents of Moroccan descent living in average-sized cities in The Netherlands. It focuses on identity formation processes of these adolescents who are living in two cultures. Identity formation is defined as the process of exploring possibilities and forming commitments in various relevant identity domains. Moreover, since Moroccan adolescents have to deal with the process of acculturation and have to formulate commitments to their parental culture as well as to Dutch culture, they need identity strategies to handle these challenges of adolescence. This thesis uses a combination of quantitative analysis of scores on exploration and commitments and qualitative (narrative) analysis of stories on identity strategies.
