Four dictyostelium cGMP-binding proteins and their role in chemotaxis

Dictyostelium discoideum live as single amoeba in the soil. Vegetative cells are chemotactically attracted by bacteria, which they feed upon. If the food source is depleted, cells start to secrete cAMP which serves as a chemoattractant. Thus, chemotaxis plays a vital role in the life of this remarkable organism. Since this mostly haploid organism is easily cultured, it is not surprising that Dictyostelium is widely used as a model organism to study chemotaxis. ...
