(2003) Zekeria, Zekeria Abdulkerim

This thesis is about ecological and population dynamic aspects of butterflyfishes of the southern Red Sea. The regional distribution of all butterflyfish species found along the Eritrean coast is described and the results are compared with the occurence of chaetodontids in adjacent waters. The distribution of four common species is related with the feeding habits. The partitioning of food and space among these species was determined. Furthermore, detailed studies are conducted on the feeding habits, social behaviour, territoriality, spawning seasonality, recruitment pattems and growth patterns of Chaetodon larvatus, the dominant butterflyfish species in the southern Red Sea. ...
