(2000) Velde, Marco van der
It is generally accepted that genetic variation is essential for evolutionary processes. Mutation, selection gene flow and random drift are the main factors influencing the level and structure of genetic variation within and among natural populations, and, therefore, may have important evolutionary consequences. In addition to these factors also the genetic system of a species, such as the breeding system, has been shown to affect the genetic structure of natural plant populations.
