The a/B hydrolase fold is one of the most common protein folds found in Nature. lt comprises hydrolytic enzymes of different phylogenetic origin and catalytic function, such as proteases, lipases, esterases, dehalogenases, peroxidases, and epoxide hydrolases. All these enzymes share a similar threedimensional structure consisting of an a/B sheet of eight central B-strands connected by a-helices. Usually members of the a/B hydrolase fold family have practically no sequence similarity, they act on different substrates, and their
properties, such as molecular weight, pH of optimal activity, and oligomeric organization, differ. ....
