Chronic stress parameters in pigs : indicators of animal welfare?

The aim of this thesis was to identify physiological parameters for monitoring stress in fattening pigs. Because animal welfare is particularly compromised under conditions of chronic stress, we put the emphasis on long-term changes in physiology as indicator of chronic stress. Biotelemetry offers the opportunity for long-term stress-free monitoring of body temperature and heart rate.
