Growth and long-term development after in utero exposure to coumarins

(2000) Driel, Dina van

The aim of the thesis was to gain insight into adverse effects after in utero exposure to coumarins on growth and long-term development of children at school age. In a nation widecohort study, we investigated growth and the neurological, behavioural, and cognitive development of 308 children prenatally exposed to coumarins, in comparison to 267 agematched non-exposed control children. We included children born between January1, 1982 and December 31, 1990, when their ages were in the range of 8 to 14 years. The exposed children were recruted from a prospective pregnancy registration by the Dutch Federation of
Thrombosis Services, which registered women who used coumarins for anticoagulation during pregnancy
