Dopamine (DA) is an endogenous catecholamine, which in 1957 was found to be an important neurotransmitter in the central nervous system. Dopamine activates dopamine receptors, which are mainly distributed in two brain areas: the nigrostriatal system, which regulates body posture and movement, and the mesolimbic system, which is involved in the regulation of emotion, cognition and memory. Therefore, abnormalities in dopaminergic signal transduction give rise to various diseases, such as Parkinson's disease, and (probably) schizophrenia....
