Multidrug resistance (MDR) was initially recongnized as the major cause of the failure of the drug-based treatment of human cancers. It has become increasingly clear that MDR occurs in mammalian cells but also in lower eukaryotes and bacteria. The appearance of multiple antibiotic resistant micro-organisms forms the major cause for the re-emergence of a number of infectious diseases that were believed to be controlled or totally exterminated. ...
