Phosphoinositide-specific phospholipase C (PLC) is generally
considered to be one of the central effector enzymes in
transmembrane signalling, generating the second messengers Ins(1,4,5)P3 and diacylglycerol. PLC activity in the cellular
slime mould Dictyostelium discoideum was
shown to be regulated via cAMP receptors and G-proteins (1). Previous studies have suggested Ins(1,4,5)P3 and diacylglycerol play a role in chemotaxis and development.
In this thesis the role oÍ the enzyme PLC in Dictyostelium disoideum growth, chemotaxis and development has been investigated by generating a cell line which no longer
contains PLC activity....
