Chiroptical molecular switches : application of inherently dissymmetric alkenes

(1994) Jager, Wolter Frens

The objective of the research described in this thesis is to develop organic molecules that can be employed as basic components for chiroptical molecular switches. The synthetic part of this research has been described in the Ph.D. thesis of B. de Lange. In this Thesis the resolution and chiroptical properties of inherently dissymmetric alkenes are described. The thermal and photochemical isomerizations of these compounds will be investigated. Mechanisms that rationalize the observed isomerizations processes will be presented. In total four classes of inherently dissymmetric alkenes were investigated.
