Many Microorganisms are adapted to habitats which we consider to be extreme. For example environments with a pH as low as 2 or as high as 11, with a low (-12 C) or high temperature (110 C), or with a high salt concentration (>3.5 M NaCl). Extreme thermophiles have an optimum temperature of growth above 65 C, a temperature lethal to 'normal' bacteria. ...
