Membrane fusion activity of infulenza virus

In this thesis the results of investigations concerning the low-pH-induced membrane fusion activity of influenza virus are reported. This fusion activity is crucial in the infectious entry of the virus into cells (See the introductory Chapter l). Direct measurement of the intracellular fusion activity is dífficult to address experimentally. Therefore, the fusion activity has been studied in model systems. The most meaningful parameter of fusion is the initial rate of fusion rather than the extent after long incubation times.
