Picosecond dephasing and relaxation in molecular mixed crystals

The results presented in this thesis show that picosecond photon echoes can be readily observed and that interesting physical information can be obtained from experiments. Furthermore the use of the accumulated echo makes the experiments relatively simple and provides a high time resolution which is only determined by the pulsewidth used. The optical dephasing of electronic and vibronic transitions in diluted molecular mixed crystals is a thoroughly studied subject by now and seems to be reasonably well understood. Scattering to librational modes is expected to be the dominant dephasing mechanism, unless a specific other state is present within a few tens of wavenumbers (nearby electronic state, host excition band). ...
