According to the literature the height of a transfer unit (HTU) is dependent on the column diameter for packed columns. For gas-liquÍd contact it is well known that, when the ratio of the column diameter to the packing particle size dk/dp is lower than 10, there is a relatively large tendency for the liquid flow to concentrate at the column wall , which lowers the HTU.
