Effects of environmental exposures on asthma phenotypes in the mouse : contributing and protecting mechanisms

(2010) Blacquière, Margareta Johanna

The scope of this thesis was to investigate the mechanisms via which different factors induce aggravation of, or provide protection against asthma. Throughout this thesis a house dust mite (HDM)-induced mouse model for allergic asthma has been used. The following parameters were investigated to characterize allergic asthma:
* HDM-specific IgE in serum
* Eosinophilic inflammation in lung tissue
* Presence of high levels of the TH2 cytokines IL-4, IL-5 and IL-13 in lung tissue
* Methacholine (MCh) responsiveness
