Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a heterogeneous disease characterized by impaired differentiation of clonally related hematopoietic precursor cells. The clinical outcomes are strongly dependent on several prognostic factors, including age, karyotype, genetic mutations, performance status and intensity of the therapy. In Chapter 2, we reviewed the risk stratification of AML and treatment strategies that have been designed based on clinical characteristics, as well as the novel therapeutic strategies that might be applied in tuture clinical trials
