Although kidney transplantation is the best therapy for patients with renal failure, the survival time of renal grafts is often still limited. The leading cause for this is chronic tissue remodeling. It affects all the renal compartments; the vasculature, glomeruli, tubuli, and interstitium, which eventually leads to chronic transplant dysfunction.
The studies described in this thesis show the diverse contribution of cells, proteoglycans and responses to intervention within the separate renal compartments during chronic tissue remodeling after kidney transplantation.
