The aim of this thesis is to characterize the immunobiological features of the protein CD20 in relation to its effectiveness as a target for therapy of B-cell malignancies. CD20 probably has a biological function in regulating and amplifying the signals of related receptor molecules like Fas or HLA-DR thereby facilitating B-cell processes such as immune synapse formation and receptor signaling. Expansion of knowledge about the biological function of CD20 can support the development of new therapeutic options in treatment of B-cell malignancies.
