In this thesis longitudinal impairment of lung function in asthma is investigated and discussed. Lung function impairment can be the result of a decreased lung development eventually leading to a lower maximally attained level of lung function. This also includes in-utero lung function development, which we did not study and is beyond the scope of this thesis. Furthermore lung function impairment can be the result of an early onset of the decline of lung function with or without excess loss of lung function, and/or more rapid lung function decline over time after finished lung growth.
