The Alkmaar Medical Center was one of the first hospitals in the Netherlands to deploy nurse practitioners. A nurse practitioner was allocated to the cardiology team in the cardiology department. The 'task shifting project nurse practitioner cardiology' was expected to reveal which types of task shifting were feasible and desirable between doctors and the nurse practitioner.
