Colorectal cancer is one of the most important causes of cancer-related death. Although over 80% of colorectal carcinomas are macroscopically resectable at the time of diagnosis, 50% of patients subsequently relapse with metastatic disease, due to the presence of micrometastasis. Adjuvant chemotherapy for patients who had local tumor lymph node involvement aims to eliminate minimal residual tumor cells and increase the proportion of patients achieving long-term diseasefree and overall survival. However, intrinsic as well as acquired resistance to chemotherapeutic drugs remains a major problem in the treatment of this disease.
