Statistics and population genetics of haplotype sharing as a tool for fine-mapping of disease gene loci.

(2002) Nolte, Ilja Maria

The aims of this thesis are twofold. The first is to study and improve the Haplotype Sharing Statistic (HSS), wich is a multilocus association method for fine-mapping disease genes that was developed by Te Meerman and van der Meulen (Te Meerman et al. 1995; Te Meerman and van der Meulen 1997; Van der Meulen and Te Neerman 1997a, Van der Meulen and Te Meerman 1997b). The second aim is to analyze, in general, the feasibility of statistical methods based on haplotype sharing for fine-mapping of disease genes. We review most of the current multilocus association methods that are comparable to HSS with respect to the type of data and genetic principles.
