Adriamycin (Adr) and cisplatin (CDDP) play an important role in cancer chemotherapy. However, the frequent occurrence of resistance to these drugs represents a significant problem in the treatment of patients with cancer. A better understanding of the mechanisms involved in drug resistance may open ways to circumvent this problem and indicate possible targets for modulation of drug resistance. This thesis focuses on one of the possible mechanisms involved in cellular resistance to Adr and CDDP: the availability of cellular detoxifying systems which may be important determinant of resistance to Adr, CDDP and other chemotherapeutic drugs. ...
