Does the use of temporary employment relationships undermine cooperative behavior of employees? Research inquiries into this issue yielded inconclusive findings. The study presented here addresses the question by examining how solidarity of employees is affected by their social context. First, it is examined to what extent solidary behavior of employees is influenced by the relationships they have with others in the organization. Second, the role of past interactions and the likelihood of future interactions within these relationships are examined. Third, the effects of the larger network on solidary behavior are studied. Data from multiple sources are used to examine the consequences of the social context for temporary employment relationships and solidary behavior of employees.
