This study is concerned with the guidance of youngsters in half way homes, a rather recent form of residential youth care. A half way home is an ordinary, relatively large house in a residential area where 4 to 8 youngsters with behavioral problems are living. Every person has his own room; kitchen and bathroom are shared. The youngsters go to school or are employed and they have to do their own cooking and cleaning. In other words, they are more of less selfsupporting. In their way of living they are guided by counselors. This guidance has treatment as well as training aspects.
